It’s the first of June and that means: it’s summer! I know officially summer only starts on the 21st of June but to me the start of June means summer and the weather obviously agrees since we have 29 degrees Celsius in Austria today. I absolutely love summer. Maybe that’s because everything below 20 degrees is cold for me – meaning: I can’t leave the house without a jacket for most parts of the year. Another reason might be the 3 months of summer vacation, perks of being a student huh?! And last but not least: summer equals beach life.
I rarely ever fly south in summer because we have the most amazing lakes in Austria and you can reach the Italian beaches within a 2 hour car drive. No need to spend tons of money on some stupid all-inclusive summer vacation. However, in 2012 me and the mister (yes, we have already been a thing back then) spontaneously decided to fly to the Greek island Kos. We got super lucky and managed to get a bargain flight + hotel and the whole holiday ended up being one of my favourite memories of our time together.
In order to show you how amazing that island is I decided to share “5 reasons why you have to visit Kos” with you.
#1 Greek food
I guess by now we all know how much I love good food! And Kos, oh my god, is perfect when it comes to food. We stayed at the Tigaki Beach Hotel and their breakfast and dinner buffet was incredible. Only thinking back to the amazing mouse au chocolate they had makes me want to buy a ticket to go there again. But the food wasn’t only delicious inside the hotel – those beach bars, the cocktail bars, the fruit trucks, the cute taverns, the supermarkets…
I don’t think I’ve ever eaten that much on a holiday to be honest.
#2 Kos is a tiny island
Since the island Kos is kind of small you can easily do a daytrip around it with a moped. We rented one for little money and it was so much fun. Ok I’m not gonna lie when we took the moped up to Kefalos and had to go back down with broken brakes I kind of died a little inside. But other than that it was an amazing experience. There’s nothing better than exploring beaches on a moped in your bikini
(imagine my tan guys!)
#3 Charming beaches
From the hotel beach to Paradise beach – every single one of them was amazing. Though we kind of preferred the one our hotel had to offer because it was right across the street and it had some trees, which you could lie under for some shadow. When you’re at Kos make sure to visit as many different beaches a possible since they all have something unique to show you.
#4 Daytrip to Bodrum
Our travel agency organised a day trip from Kos to the Turkish city Bodrum and we took the opportunity to go there too. We had an amazing day exploring the town, strolling around the markets, mesmerizing at the yacht harbour and enjoying delicious food
(yes food again!). Even though the coach journey was kind of boring (they showed us around a shopping mal??) Bodrum was incredibly gorgeous with all its white houses and the view at the open sea.
#5 The people
Never have I been treated better than in the hotel on Kos. The staff was super friendly and they always made us smile and tried to make our day by being kind and preparing little surprises for us. We did not book a special honeymoon room or something but the way they treated us we might as well have. Haha.
