The last day of the year. A day to reflect, remember and reshift your focus. 2018 has been a great year. A big year. However, I am happy it is over now and so ready for new adventures and an even greater 2019. Because I love reading yearly reviews a lot on other blogs, I decided to do one myself this year too. 2017 hasn’t been a good year for me. After ending a relationship, I found myself at the bottom. I was alone, in debt and lived in a flat that crushed my mental health on the daily. I did finish my bachelor’s degree and started working, though. That was good and helped me deal with the anxiety and struggles of having to face life on the daily. I stopped blogging. Stopped almost anything that I loved. So this year mainly was about picking myself up again, working on my mental health, letting people back in and getting on the high road again.
New flat, new job, new degree
In February I moved into my new flat. In August I quit my day job for good and headed into the adventure that is full-time blogging and freelancing. In October I went back to University to do my master’s degree. So much has changed this year and, looking back, I realize that I am an entirely different person now then I was last December 31st.
The cat-lady life
For years I had been thinking about getting a cat. I simply could not bring myself to take up the commitment, though. In September, however, Bobby and Lilly moved in with me. And it has been a rollercoaster-ride ever since. Sadly enough, Bobby died only one month upon arriving at my house due to an illness he probably had inherited and no one knew about. It was all so sudden and broke my heart.
Lilly, on the other hand, has made my life a lot more bearable on bad days and an equal amount more fun on a good day. She is the sweetest cat and I could not imagine ever having lived without her. I am so happy about me finally committing to letting someone new into my life and love having her to bits.
Blogging, Collaborations and the Podcast
Blogging has been amazing in 2018. I worked on some absolutely incredibly campaigns, travelled to new places and could fulfill the dream of working as a full-time blogger. So here are some of my blogging-highlights of 2018.
Launching the Podcast. In summer my friend Alina and I launched the “Coffee Blend Podcast” – a German-speaking podcast about contemporary topics for women, discussed with a cup of coffee in our hands. And it has been so much fun ever since. If you haven’t listened to us rambling about life, love and other adventures, check it out HERE.
Releasing my own Coffee Blend with J. Hornig. Together with my friend Lisa I launched my own coffee blend with the Austrian coffee roasters J. Hornig. It was available for purchase in a limited amount and we managed to raise about 500 € for charity with the sale as 100% of the revenue was donated. As a coffee-lover this was probably my career highlight this year.
Other than that, I got to work with some other incredibly companies as well. The Burberry and Chloé Collaborations were some of my highlights this year – two brands I absolutely admire and am so happy to be working with. I travelled to Verona to attend my first ever fashion show with Falconeri and got to work with Pandora again, one of my favourite jewellery brands. I also started leaving my comfort zone more and more this year. I held workshops in front of 40 people, I wrote for online magazines, I gave interviews, worked in content creation for well-known brands and found myself nominated for two awards. What a year!

What I learned in 2018
This year has been a year of tremendous personal growth and change for me. I realized the value of a good friendship and importance to talk to your friends when you are feeling shit. I finally spoke up about my mental health issues and started talking about my past and working through it. I found comfort and love. When you know, you know. So shoutout to everyone who helped me work through my issues in 2018, to everyone who was there when I couldn’t pick myself up again, to everyone who listened to me ramble on and on. And especially to my partner, who showed me that love is real. Very real indeed.
And with that, I wish you a wonderful last day of the year and an amazing start into 2019 – whether you celebrate with friends, family, your loved one or cats.
