We’re only a couple of days into 2017 and I think we can all agree that things aren’t looking too bright at the moment (ahem, politics wise). However, I don’t want to go into further detail about that today because, although I find it super important, I also want to focus more on myself in 2017. But let’s get down to these 6 goals or resolutions to aim for in 2017, to make it the best year yet.
1. LEARN TO DO THINGS ON YOUR OWN
Let’s start off with something fairly straightforward, shall we. Doing things on your own, huh! Why is something that sounds so perfectly normal, so ill-reputed in society? Shouldn’t we all first be able to get along with ourselves before we start making connections and real life relationships with other human beings? So let’s take a vow to ourselves in 2017 – take yourself out for dinner, go to the cinema on your own or even solo-travel to a foreign country. You’re doing this for yourself and you don’t need no other human being to make yourself happy!
2. DE-CLUTTER YOUR LIFE – THINGS, FRIENDS, FEELINGS
Ever since that stupid ‘Life-changing magic of tidying’ book found its way into mainstream media, de-cluttering has been on everyone’s agenda. What doesn’t bring joy, must go. And while I didn’t like the book per se, I think this notion is absolutely important to remember for everyday life. We all have people in our lives who only bring us down, these ‘friends’ that always tell us to stop and never encourage us to reach for the stars – away with them. In 2017 I want to focus on those who bring me joy and love me the way I am, rather than spending energy on fake friends and people who don’t want me in their life.
3. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Aaaah, the big one! I mean come on, we’ve all heard this on several occasions (read: on every blog/magazine, EVER) but it’s just so important. Comparing literally is the thief of joy. So let’s all agree to stop comparing ourselves to others in 2017. I am myself and not someone else, so why would I compare my success or worth to others. Truth be told, I’m very guilty of this and it’s one of the things I loathe about myself. I constantly compare my looks to others, my gym progress to that of my friend and my social media stats to those of other bloggers. Definitely something that I aim to stop doing in 2017!
4. SPEAK YOUR MIND
Quite often people tell me that they envy me for my honesty on here. But you know what? I’ve been quiet for so long and never dared to speak my mind/opinion when it came to things that mattered to me. But now that I have this platform to speak out and spread awareness on topics that matter to me, I want to use it in the best way possible. And I think you should too. Even if it’s just commenting on a Facebook post you don’t agree with. Don’t let them divide us and show resistance! Speak your mind and fight for what you believe in! Especially in times like these, when standing up for a cause is essential for our future!
5. BE PRESENT
This is something I personally have to work on a lot harder. I’m a big dreamer and quite often am not really living in the moment. While the greatest things happen, I search refugee in my head and dream a future that is never going to be that way. So I want to focus more on being present, appreciating what I have and where I am right now. There’s no time like the present, eh?
6. AIM FOR THE STARS
Last but not least, let’s all agree on aiming for the stars in 2017. The world is our oyster and there is absolutely no reason to be happy with the mediocre if we want something bigger. I know that might be unrealistic and really optimistic, but I truly believe that every one of us is destined to do great things – be it personally, career wise or in any other context you might imagine. So hustle, hustle, hustle and reach for the stars!
