*INVITATION* “May I bring you another cup of your favourite drink, miss?” – His voice wakes me from my daydream. I startle and slowly nod my head yes. He smiles and hurries back to the restaurant. With the sun shining on my face, and the steady stream of water as a background noise, I immediately dreamt myself away. He brought me back to reality, though. And honestly, the reality isn’t so much worse than the place I’ve been to in my dream. I smile and let my eyes wander over the scenery – lots of trees, the mountains as a backdrop, and my iced cappuccino arriving with the smiling waiter at the Ronacher Hotel.
Weekend Getaway at the Ronacher Hotel in Bad Kleinkirchheim
When I think back to that amazing trip two weeks ago, I’m still in a state of utter bliss and relaxation. My mom and I have spent the weekend at the 5*S Ronacher Spa in Bad Kleinkirchheim for a little spa retreat, filled with delicious food and lots of relaxation. Only 40 minutes from my hometown, in the midst of the mountains, the little village is located and houses one of the best hotels I’ve ever been to. We enjoyed three days of sauna, reading, tanning, swimming, and eating – accompanied by awesome staff and lovely interior.
This weekend was total proof that you don’t always have to go far to relax and enjoy some downtime. I do love traveling to far away destinations and often forget about how beautiful my home actually is. But wandering through the mountains, enjoying the sun at the pool and waking up to the sound of birds has shown me that sometimes all you need is a little staycation at a really good hotel to regain your motivation and inspiration again.
OUR ROOM: Juniorsuite Loggia
We arrived at the hotel rather early in the morning. However, as the hotel wasn’t fully booked we were given the opportunity to access our room at around 11 o’clock. So we got our suitcases from the garage and entered our huge, spacious and airy room on the 4th floor. We were given the Juniorsuite Loggia and absolutely loved it. On wellness retreats, I think, your room actually has to be big and spacious, offering you lots of room to spread your wings and enjoy some time in your room as well.
The bathroom was gorgeous and the shower had an amazing water pressure. I think I’ve already said this a couple of times but good water pressure is essential for me when it comes to actually enjoying the stay in a hotel or not. The bed itself was big and super comfy. Maybe a tad too soft for my taste – but that’s literally always the case – seems like I’d need to start reevaluating my bed-tastes, haha. Another thing I absolutely adored was the spacious balcony with an amazing view over the pool area and the mountains. There’s nothing like waking up early and stepping outside to enjoy some fresh mountain air and see the sun rising behind the intimidating and awesome structures of the mountains.
There’s one thing, I have to criticize when it comes to the room situation, though, and that’s the temperature in our room. We slept with the balcony door half open because it was just so hot in the room. I’m very particular when it comes to falling asleep and need it to be super dark, super quiet and rather chill. My mom fell asleep once she lay done in the bed because she deemed it so cozy. Me, however, I had some troubles sleeping because it was too warm inside for me. Minor drawback, tho!
THE FOOD: Organic, Healthy, and utterly delicious
There’s nothing better than hotel food. Our spa weekend at the Ronacher features a gourmet half board and we utterly enjoyed that. The breakfast buffet was so good and had the most amazing healthy offer I have ever seen at a hotel. They even had chia pudding and a super delicious green smoothie that’s supposed to boost your immune system and get you going for the day. The coffee was delicious as well and came with soy milk and basically in every way you’d want to have it prepared.
Dinner was amazing as well. We once had an Italian night and a 5-course meal with fish, meat, vegetarian, vegan and healthy choices to opt from. I’m a sucker for a good dinner and loved the atmosphere in the restaurant. The best part about eating at the Ronacher, however, was our waiter. “Herr Anton” might simply be the best waiter I have ever met. He was genuinely so much fun, so attentive and always featured a smile and had a witty remark to make us smile. Often it’s the people that make something unique, and he definitely did that for us.
THE SPA AREA: Sauna, Toskana, and lots of sunshine at the outdoor pool
The Ronacher Hotel has an amazing spa area featuring a beautiful sauna complex, a selection of various indoor and outdoor pools, and super relaxing treatments. We did not opt for a treatment this time because we decided that we definitely want to come back in autumn and then, treat ourselves to one of their spa treatments. The Ronacher Spa is the only spa in Austria that offers the original royal thai massage and I definitely want to try that once. We talked to some other guests and they all claimed they had an amazing time at the beauty and spa area.
What we did opt for, however, was a private light, fragrance and sound sauna. This was so relaxing! I’m not a fan of crowded saunas and loved that you had the opportunity to do this all alone. Futhermore, I absolutely loved the stone pine sauna (which you could attend in bathing suit, by the way) and their 2-story mountain hut sauna.
As the weather was rather lovely, we spent most of our time lying by the outdoor pool in the sun. On our last day, it was raining, tho, and we decided to enjoy some quiet at the Toskana area in the spa. What I loved too, was the oriental spice tea they offered at the spa area – I even bought myself two packages to prepare it at home because I found that to be one of the best teas I have ever had.
Mother-daughter retreat at the Ronacher Spa: MY CONCLUSION
All in all, we utterly enjoyed our stay at the 5* Superior Wellness Resort in Bad Kleinkirchheim. They say the devil is in the detail – and that definitely was true for this hotel, in a positive sense. They kept impressing us with little somethings, such as cleaned car windows on the day of our departure, a small package of tea as a surprise gift, a basket of fruit in our room and super friendly staff. The food at the hotel was incredibly delicious and we also adored the spa and sauna area. A friend of mine, who has already been to the Ronacher hotel, told me that she used to go there for a day of spa only and I will definitely take up that opportunity. As my family only lives about 40 minutes from the hotel, my mom and I already planned on coming back in autumn/winter to treat ourselves to a day of relaxation and food.
