*sponsored content* The time has finally come. On Monday my friend Vivi and I will finally be heading out on our big roadtrip. I’m saying big, even though we’re only traveling through Austria for a week. For me, however, it certainly is a big thing as I’ve never done anything like this before. Plus there’s this incredible wanderlust that’s been building up in me for the past few stressful weeks. As this trip is the perfect opportunity to talk about traveling and exploring Austria on the blog, I thought I’d start it all off with a big roadtrip preparation guide.
First things first; Working on your Route
One thing that was clear to us from the very beginning was that we’d like to explore our home country instead of opting for any other destination. Once that was down we created a Pinterest board and started saving pictures of mountainsides, lakes and other destinations we’d like to visit in Austria on there, as well as on Instagram and Facebook. A few weeks into the preparation we then sat down and discussed a possible route. We wanted to keep it short as we’d like to do some hiking and exploring, rather than just spending hours upon hours in the car. At the same time, however, we wanted to see places we haven’t been to before.
Some things to keep in mind when planning your Roadtrip
- Book hotels in advance to save money – but also allow for deviation from the route
- Use Pinterest and Instagram to search for and find destinations you’d like to visit
- Compromise on destinations to keep time in the car short
- Search for scenic routes so you won’t have to just drive on the tedious highway all the time
- Calculate gas money and the kilometers you’d have to drive
- Make sure to discuss what you expect from your roadtrip with your travel buddy to avoid unpleasant surprises along the way
- Roughly plan your budget
- Plan a packing list
Packing for your Roadtrip
Packing and me, it’s kind of a hate-love relationship. I do love the process of packing itself because it makes me realize that, finally, my trip is coming near. On the other hand, I always struggle big time with deciding what to take with me and what’s best to leave at home. Quite often it happened that I packed ten shirts, two dresses and a bunch of other clothing items and then ended up spending 99% of my vacation in just one outfit on repeat.
So for my upcoming roadtrip, I wanted to pack smart.
Vivi and I are going to spend a great deal of time in the car and are planning on possibly even sleeping in it at some point in the trip. So my suitcase needs to provide me with all the things I need to be comfortable, go hiking and tan my beach bum in the sun, as well as be as small as possible to supply us with enough room in the car. Then there need to be comfy outfits for the road, hiking clothes and some nice outfits to take some cute pictures along the way. Just thinking of packing makes me feel stressed!!
Luckily, I love me some lists. That is why I was roaming the internet, trying to find one that would make the packing process much easier for me. And what I eventually found was this incredible packing guide from the Zalando Editorial team. It does not only tell you what to pack for your vacation, but also gives some super useful information on what size your luggage can have on flights, and offers some great picks for suitcases, backpacks, and more. So useful!
Your Ultimate Roadtrip Playlist
Last but not least, how could I write a Roadtrip Guide without including some kind of Playlist? Vivi and I have been working on the perfect list for the past couple of weeks and I wanted to share it with you. It’s a fun mix of oldies, sing-along songs, rap, pop, house and all the things you need to boost your mood and sing your heart out while driving. Enjoy!
Have you ever been on a roadtrip? Would you like to share some recommendation to my ultimate roadtrip preparation guide? Looking forward to your comments.
- In friendly collaboration with Zalando, thank you! -
