*INVITATION* I think, one thing that made our trip to Edinburgh so remarkably enjoyable was the hotel we opted for. The Radisson Blu Edinburgh was the perfect pick for the weekend getaway to the Scottish capital and provided us with an amazing location to start exploring, as well as a fantastic breakfast to fuel for the day. But more on that below.
This actually was my first time in the UK sleeping in a really nice hotel. Usually, when traveling to i.e. London we opted for very cheap hostels and hotels that enabled us to spend more money on the actual trip rather than the accommodation. In Scotland, however, we decided to go for something a little fancier and honestly, I never ever want to go back to hostels and bad B&B’s. A good hotel DOES make such a difference when it comes to enjoying your trip, and with luck, timing and the right tactics a nice hotel doesn’t necessarily have you spend a lot of money on accommodation.
WEEKEND GETAWAY AT THE RADISSON BLU EDINBURGH
So, what made the stay at the Radisson Blu so special for us? First of all, it was their incredibly friendly staff. We arrived a bit early and had to wait for our room for a couple of hours. They kindly stored our luggage and gave us tips on what to explore in the meantime without wandering too far off from the hotel. After walking through the city for a bit, we headed back to the hotel and decided to explore its halls for a bit. We sadly forgot our bathing suits, otherwise, we’d certainly have taken a dip in their beautiful spa area or tried out their well equipped gym.
INFO: A Standard room at the Radisson Blu Edinburgh starts at £125 per room inclusive of bed and breakfast with a junior suite costing from £190.
OUR ROOM: Business Class Room
Luckily, we were given an upgrade from a standard double room to one of their fabulous business class rooms. This meant we had plenty of space, a huge lounge are and a super comfy bed in our room. What I probably loved most, though, was the beautiful window front, which provided us with an amazing view over the Royal Mile and Arthur’s seat. In the morning we woke up to find a local newspaper lying in front of our room – such a lovely service, I think. The devil certainly is in the details with these things, isn’t it?
The bed in our room was so comfortable. We have an amazing bed at home but I don’t think I’ve slept this well in weeks! The selection of pillows and the huge duvet made it even cozier and perfect to relax after an exhausting day of exploring the city. Another huge plus was the shower with an actually really nice water pressure. If you’ve been following my hotel reviews for a longer time, you might now how particularly picky I am with this. Really approve this one, though!
Now on to my favorite part… the breakfast buffet. And believe me when I say that the breakfast buffet at the Radisson Blu Edinburgh was amazing. They had a huge buffet with varieties of sweet and savory dishes to choose from. What is more, when you sat down at your table, you were given a separate menu from which to choose your warm dishes from. I decided to make use of this offer each morning and ordered a warm and delicious porridge with berries on one day, and a delicious roll with avocado mash and a poached egg on the other day. Completed only with a lovely cup of soy cappuccino, of course. I honestly really loved this offer. I think it’s such a lovely addition to an already really nice breakfast buffet.
The best thing about this hotel, though, might be its location. Located right at the Royal Mile it makes wandering through the city as easy as it can get. We only had to leave the main door of the hotel to find ourselves immersed in the tourist streams and buzz of the old town. I found this super helpful to get around. From the airport, if you take the bus I talked about in my travel guide, it also was super easy to get to the hotel. You only have to walk about 7 minutes up a hill and you find yourself standing on the Royal Mile, directly across the Hotel. So easy, right?!
