A few days ago I was looking through the fashion category up here on the blog and realized that most of the clothes I wear in these pictures look pretty similar. My first thought honestly was, “damn I’m not a good (fashion)blogger because I basically always wear the same boring old clothes“. But then I realized that this is my personal style!
I finally found what I was looking for all along: a personal style that I feel comfortable in and really like! So today I wanna talk a bit about how I found my personal style and give you some tips on how to develop yours too. But let’s start at the beginning and take a walk down memory lane…
My way to my personal style
Looking back at old pictures I never had a “personal style”. At 14 I was emo/gothic and only wore black clothes, studded belts and had bright pink hair! At 15/16 I suddenly wore skater clothes and later I just randomly threw on what I found in my wardrobe. The things I had in my closet ranged from black and classy to bright and slutty. I never really felt comfortable and only bought clothes to cover my body. I looked at what the others wore and bought similar stuff. I never really had fun or any real interest in fashion and style!
But then I slowly developed some self-confidence (read more about that in »this« post) and everything changed. I finally started to embrace and appreciate my body, my weight and shape. I feel like the biggest mistake people make when it comes to buying clothes is not respecting their body. We buy clothes too tight thinking we’re gonna lose weight. Or shirts too lose because we don’t want people to see our belly-fat. We desperately buy dresses we see and love on others despite it looking absolutely horrible on us. We generally tend to buy clothes we don’t like or feel comfortable in because they’re trendy right now. But that’s utter nonsense!
Speaking of clothes we do not wear. I just recently started drastically clearing out my closet. You gotta know that my wardrobe basically consists of a few pieces that I wear and love and other stuff that I once liked or never really wore outside the house. Now I wanna focus on basic pieces that fit me perfectly. Why would I need a size 36 pant when I’m a 38 – always have been and probably always will be?
So how would I describe my personal style? I honestly don’t know but looking at my pictures one thing became apparent. I like flow-y dark coats, ripped pants and comfortable shoes. I’m not a high heels kinda girl so I’m gonna give mine away somewhat soon. Also I’m not really bold when it comes to colors. Rather than mix and matching bright clothes I tend to stick to black, white and grey. But that’s okay! It’s my very own personal style after all.
I personally love Pinterest when it comes to Outfit inspiration. I have two folders called “Spring & Summer Styles” and “Outfits for colder days” and continuously fill them with outfits I love. You can check out my Pinterest »HERE«.
