*sponsored content* A couple of weeks back (when I was lying in the sun on my summer vacation in Italy actually) a very exciting email found its way into my inbox. Basically, Opel asked me if I wanted to join them on a two-day trip to Scotland for the press launch of their new Opel Mokka X. Of course, I didn’t even think twice and said YES as soon as I reached the bottom of the mail.
I already had some very positive experience with the brand. I knew I liked and trusted them so I was totally in on it. Add Scotland, a country I’ve been dying to go to for the past few years and I’m hooked.
The Route | A Roadtrip through the Scotish Highlands
After being picked up at the Edinburgh airport we chose one of the cars to be driving around with. Of course, it was raining outside so I went for a colour that would pop and stand out in the grey and gloomy weather: Safran orange. From there we started our drive towards our lunch location, the Dalmeny House in South Queensferry. We had a delicious lunch buffet, marbled at the gorgeous estate and took our car out for a drive around the lawn.
After having filled our belly we took on the biggest part of our road trip. From the Dalmeny House we headed towards MHOR 84 in Balquhidder, where our coffee break was scheduled to take place. The nearly two-hour drive took us through cute little villages, across one of the three bridges in Queensferry, and scenic routes in the Highlands. Taking the bad boy that is the Mokka X out for a drive on this route was so much fun.
Thankfully Opel went for a scenic rather than a busy road, giving me the opportunity to test out my driving skills without having to worry about crashing into the oncoming traffic. After tea and scones, we entered the “off-road” track section, which was utter fun. My co-driver let me tackle it even though I’ve never done it before and I had SO much fun speeding through the mud. Then we drove back to Edinburgh city to check into our hotel. This, again, took us about two hours.
The Car | Opel Mokka X
The route they opted for basically included everything you could ever encounter on a road trip. Scenic road: check. Driving through the city: check. Off road section in the woods: check. Animals on the streets: check. Highway: check….
And I gotta admit, the Opel Mokka X tackled everything rather nicely. This car is such a treat to be driving with and absolutely perfect for adventure-filled road trips. With its four-wheel drive and raised seating position it is both, suited for city life as well as cruising through woods and bumpy country roads. During all of our trip, I felt incredibly safe and comfortable in this car. And that’s not the usual case as I get nervous rather easily when driving. Especially when it’s on the other side of the road. Luckily, in the Mokka X it wasn’t that big of a deal, though.
The probably best thing about this car, to me, is their new OnStar Service. Basically, the Mokka X will provide you with 4G internet during your road trips. Due to this feature, I was able to live post on Snapchat while my co-driver tested the car. LOVE IT! But OnStar doesn’t only do that. It also connects you to a Service-line that may contact you when you’ve had an accident and or need help whenever you’re stuck somewhere or encounter any problem on the road, whatsoever. Seriously, how cool is that? Not only is having wi-fi while in the car every internet addicts’ dream, I can also imagine this being a life-saver when you’re on a longer drive with your kids.
The Hotel | Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa Edinburgh
The night we spent at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa Edinburgh right in the city centre. When I entered my room I couldn’t believe it was actually mine. The room was ginormous and furnished rather lovely. I wish I would have had time to enjoy it even more so. For dinner, the whole group assembled and headed towards the Cannonball Restaurant. If you ever find yourself in Edinburgh, wanting to splurge on food, go there! The food was absolutely delicious and the location to-die-for. The next morning, after a huge breakfast, it was almost already time to depart for the airport again. I spend my free hour with wandering through and falling in love with Edinburgh.
My Conclusion | A perfect car for adventurous people
I absolutely enjoyed this trip. Not only did I fall in love with this gorgeous country, I also really enjoyed driving the new Opel Mokka X. I have to admit that I always thought this kind of car was suited more for the older generation. During this Scottish road trip, however, I realised that it actually is perfect for frequent travellers and adventurous people.
I personally much prefer the Adam S we have at home. It’s teeny tiny and perfect for our needs (aka shopping). If I ever plan on doing another road trip, however, I’d definitively opt for a car like the Mokka X. Its size is perfect for luggage. It can drive safely through cities, over highways or across the countryside. Also, I definitely need my next car to have OnStar because that is the kind of luxury that I never again want to miss while being on the road for a little longer.
What do you think about the new Opel Mokka X and this super cool event? Let’s talk in the comments down below :)
