*INVITATION* After we came back from our little trip to Vienna in September we figured that we still needed a little spa fix before the end of 2015. Said and done: we set off on a little internet research in order to find spa hotels in Austria that weren’t too expensive or too far away. However, after stumbling over the Mama Thresl website we instantly changed our mind and decided to rather go on a little hiking trip, I’m not to spa kinda girl anyway. To be quite honest I have to admit that after checking out their website, facebook and instagram I had very very high expectations.
So on Sunday 25th we got up early and set off towards Leogang. Our (almost) 4h car ride took us through scenic little Austrian towns, over a huge mountain with a breathtaking view and just as we couldn’t wait to finally get out of the car again, we arrived at our destination. Right after parking the car in front of the Mama Thresl and stepping out into the open air, we were greeted by the lovely smell of pinewood. INCREDIBLE!
Because check-in wasn’t before 3pm and we arrived somewhat around 12, we decided to use our “Löwen-Alpincard” (which you get for free if you sleep at Mama Thresl) and go on a little hike. Hiking on Asitz was absolutely fabulous, but I already told you all about that in my last post. The first peek into the hotel lobby promised a fantastic stay. And when we finally got to check out our woodenstyle plus room we couldn’t believe what we got ourselves into.
After marveling at our cozy room for a little too long we decided see if their spa area is any good. For 10 additional euros you can get access to the sauna and the organic wood relaxation rooms called “rest coves”. We spend a few hours in the “empty room” reading in front of an open wood fire and I don’t think I’ve ever felt that relaxed before. When we woke up from our little nap to check the time we realized that it was nearly time for dinner – oops!
Dinner was amazing too! I had one of the best veggie burgers in my entire life (homemade bun, mango, goats cheese and lettuce + sweet potato fries YUM!). Speaking of food… After having the best sleep in a very long while (pinewood is amazing for sleeping problems, believe me) we headed down to the lobby to enjoy our breakfast. They offered such an incredible variety of fresh food – I honestly can’t think of anything they didn’t offer and yet the buffet wasn’t too overloaded. Breakfast done right!
I honestly think that this review doesn’t do the hotel justice. There’s so much more to say… but I don’t want to ramble for another 1.000 words – ain’t nobody got time for that! So I’ll just throw a few more things I liked at you. And to say a few things that weren’t perfect: The market based pricing system seems kinda weird to me and I didn’t like the fact that our bed was in fact 2 single beds pushed together. I can see why that would make sense, as they also have seminars in the hotel but I personally prefer a real double bed.
More stuff I liked about the mama thresl:
- Breathtaking mountain view!!
- DJ and aerial acrobats in the lobby on weekends (Thu, Fri, Sat starting at 9)
- The natural stone shower in the room
- Creativity and their one-of-a-kind concept!
- Renting a Go-Pro to professionally film your mountain adventures
- An actual granny as their “ad-model” (please check the website, you’re gonna love it)
- If you have a little extra money: go for their “thresl’s one and only“ room
- Generally speaking: With prices from 65€ and up per person/room the prices are actually really affordable.
On their website they promised “the perfect retreat for people who love the mountains and big cities alike”. And right they were. The traditional flair of the rooms/building combined with modern elements was one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced. I’d definitely recommend the mama thresl hotel to everyone who likes the familiar atmosphere of traditional Austrian mountain hotels combined with a hip and trendy metropolitan stay that knows no boundaries when it comes to creativity.
*Miss Getaway was welcomed to the mama thresl hotel in leogang as a guest, however my opinion is as always, my own. Many thanks goes out to the mama thresl team for the amazing stay.
