*INVITATION* Some hotels are just better than others. Period. And the Hochschober hotel at the Turracher Höhe certainly belongs to the former category. Located on a mountain, right between Styria and Carinthia, this hotel offers is a great place for spa, sports, and delicious foods. My mom and I treated ourselves to a lovely wellness weekend at the Hochschober last weekend and I gotta tell you, it was absolutely amazing.
Spa weekend at the 4* superior Hochschober Hotel
As I do not have my own car (hello student life) my mom and I decided to take the train up to the Turracher Höhe. This sounded like the worst plan ever but turned into a great road trip for the two of us. From Graz it’s quite easy to get there. You only gotta hop on the train towards Unzmarkt and then change onto the Murtalbahn, which is a fun and nostalgic ride to Predlitz-Turrach, where you’ll be picked up by a cab driver organized by the hotel. Easy-peasy, right?
Once we entered the lobby we were greeted by the incredibly friendly staff at the hotel and immediately shown to our room. We stayed at the hotel from Thursday to Saturday and that was absolutely perfect, as on Saturday midday about 250 people arrived, huh, talk about timing. During our stay at the Hochschober, it was rather quite and absolutely relaxing in the hotel. The staff was so nice, lovely and obliging – but more on that later.
Our room: Standard Double Room
My mom and I stayed in the standard double room, which was perfect for us. It was suited with stone pine wood and smelled absolutely delicious. We also had a huge bathroom including a gorgeous bathtub, an office area, and a big bed. We both weren’t huge fans of the bed and pillows, though. I know that’s so personal but I prefer a hard mattress and lots of pillows, which this bed sadly didn’t offer. I utterly love wooden-furniture in spa hotels and there’s nothing better for a good night’s sleep than the smell of wood. So good! Oh and one other thing I loved is the fact that the room had its own drinking fountain. So cool as I always need my fresh glass of water with me – always keep drinking, guys!
The spa experience
The spa at the Hochschober hotel is huge, gorgeous and oh-so-relaxing. The sauna area is fabulous. Unfortunately, I cannot show you what it looks like on pictures but imagine huge newly renovated saunas with a one of a kind view over the lake. Speaking of the lake, they also have a pool in the frozen lake where you can swim comfortably in the warm water while everyone around you is ice skating. Talk about luxury, huh!
My mom treated us both to a 50-minute massage treatment and it was so good. The spa area at the hotel really is incomparable. My favourite was the quiet room, though. As the hotel isn’t grown-ups only, there always is a chance of kids running around, screaming. However, these quiet rooms are restricted to adults and so you can comfortably lie there reading a book in the quiet. I might or might not have finished two books during our stay. Oops!
All about that food
Ok now on to my all-time favourite topic: the food! If you’re vegan this hotel is going to blow your mind. I’ve honestly never stayed at a hotel offering a better variety of vegan foods to their guests. And I always order the vegan meal at hotels and restaurants!
The breakfast buffet was huge and basically had everything you could wish for, from fruit to vegetables to delicious baked goods and egg dishes. Then there was the lunch, where they prepared a big salad buffet and also had other dishes to choose from. We always opted for a big salad, though, as we didn’t want to be full for the dinner at night. Dinner was from another planet. Seriously so good. You could always choose from either fish, meat or vegan and all of the courses were delicious, beautiful and oh my god, I’m starting to swoon again.
I wish I could criticize this hotel more because I always want to give you an honest account of what the stay was like. But other than the bed there’s legitimately nothing I didn’t like. Give me a crazy beautiful spa area, great saunas, a heated outdoor pool, lots of soy cappuccino and good food and I’m happy. Plus, there’s the Asia tower and if you’re into tea ceremonies, yoga and stuff you’re going to be over the moon. So cool! When we didn’t enjoy ourselves in the spa, we went out for huge walks around the lake or the surrounding area. Would have loved to go skiing but I haven’t been for years and sadly have no equipment whatsoever.
