Located on the mountain, right between Styria and Carinthia, the Hotel Hochschober is the perfect little hideaway during all seasons. It’s a great place for wellness, winter- / summer-sports, yoga and simply one of the most relaxing places I have ever been. Whenever I come back to the hotel I instantly feel at home and at ease. The fresh mountain air paired with the great service, cozy interior and homely atmosphere make the Hotel Hochschober one of my all-time favorites in Austria.
Spa Weekend at the 4* Superior Hotel Hochschober
The hotel is located at the Turracher Höhe, right next to the big lake. This makes it the perfect hideaway for both skiing holidays in winter, as well as hiking adventures in summer. If you arrive by car you can easily drive up the scenic route and park your car in front of the hotel. If you do not have your own car, however, arrival by train is also possible. You simply have to take the train towards Unzmarkt and then change onto the Murtalbahn, a fun and nostalgic ride to Predlitz-Turach. From there a driver organized by the hotel will pick you up.
Upon arrival at the hotel, the owners make it their mission to make your stay as comfortable and homely as possible. You instantly are offered a drink, an introduction to the hotel and a tour of the surroundings.
Our Room: Standard Double Room
The key element of the hotel certainly is wood. Various rooms are equipped with stone pine wood and each room has its own unique design. I always find natural elements in a hotel room so calming and relaxing. There also are big bathtubs, super clean bathrooms and wonderfully comfortable beds in all of the rooms.
Another thing I absolutely appreciated is the fact that our room came with its own drinking fountain for water. Perfect! I need to have a glass of water next to me at all times and this came in quite handy. Not all rooms seem to have this feature. However, as this is Austria, it’s absolutely safe to drink the water from all taps and with the drinking glasses and carafes at the room, this shouldn’t impose a problem either.
The Spa Experience at The Hotel Hochschober
The spa at the Hochschober is huge, gorgeous and oh-so-relaxing. The sauna area is fabulous. I especially love the panorama-sauna with its huge windows overlooking the lake. This is incredibly scenic and relaxing in winter as you can sit inside the hot sauna and watch people ice-skating on the frozen lake outside. Speaking of the lake. What the hotel probably is most famous for is its stunning heated pool in the middle of the lake. Here you can swim comfortably in the warm water while the snow is falling all around you. Talk about luxury, huh!
There also is a workout area, which I personally find a tad too small and vaguely equipped. However, the yoga sessions they offer are great and there’s plenty of outdoor activities, such as swimming, e-biking, hiking and tours around the area in summer and skiing in winter, of course. Another stunning detail is their Asia tower with Ayurveda treatments and tea room overlooking the mountain scenery.
But What About The Food, aka Hotel Breakfast Heaven
On to my all-time favorite topic: the food! If you’re vegan this hotel is going to blow your mind. I’ve honestly never stayed at a hotel offering a better variety of vegan foods to their guests during dinner, lunch, and breakfast. And I always order the vegan meal at hotels and restaurants!
The breakfast buffet is huge and had literally everything you could wish for. Ranging from fresh fruits to vegetables, delicious sweets, waffles, porridge and freshly cooked dishes made from eggs – there certainly is something for everyone out there. The lunch was lovely as well and featured a huge salad bar. Dinner at the Hochschober is one of my favorites ever. They offer a big first-course buffet and salad bar, a three-course dinner and a dessert buffet, fully equipped with an ice-cream bar.
Big thanks to the staff at Hochschober for welcoming Miss Getaway as a guest. The opinion expressed in this post is, as always, 100% my own!
