Grias Eich, my name is Sophia from http://www.sophiajuliana.de/ – I’m from beautiful Bavaria and my blog is all about fitness, the healthy lifestyle and travelling. When Kerstin asked me if I wanted to write a post for her lovely followers I just couldn’t resist. Back to the topic of this post: How to stay healthy on vacation?
First of all: holiday is the time to relax! Don’t be too hard to yourself and your body! With some simple tips you can avoid bad conscience and weight-gain. With the 5 following tips you can easily stay on your healthy diet while you’re on vacation.
1. Drink enough water!
By now we all know about the importance of water. It gives us power and energy, helps us to stay hydrated and has many other benefits. But how to do it right? Firstly, choose water instead of sugary drinks. Secondly, drink a big glass of water before breakfast (to boost your metabolism). Avoid juices that contain a lot of sugar at the hotel buffet (except it’s fresh pressed orange juice for sure). And always make sure to take a bottle of water with you while you’re sight-seeing.
2. Mix your own cereal!
These days most hotels offer a big breakfast buffet with different bowls of granola, flakes and seeds. Choose wisely! Whole grain flakes, oats, nuts and seeds combined with fruit are the perfect mix!
3. Take some granola/protein bars with you!
We all know the situation: we’re out and suddenly we feel hungry. Your mind says: eat something! But do you really? The biggest mistake is going to the next best (fast food) restaurant. Feed this little hole in your tummy with a healthy granola bar or some kind of protein bar. Trust me – after eating a healthy snack your head will be cleared enough to search for the ideal (healthy) restaurant!
4. Try the local food!
Be open for something new! Pizza and pasta is always a good idea, but so is paella in Spain or tarte flambée in Paris. It’s simply true that food tastes best where it has its origin. Enjoy an amazing meal and try not to think about cheats or anything else – you’re only on vacation once, aren’t you?
5. Treat yo’ self!
A healthy lifestyle is all about balance. I think we all know some sweets that are typical for a country/city: gelato in Italy, waffles in Belgium, Macaroons in France – you should definitely try one of these! It won’t kill you to try one or two pieces of cake and you’ll be a bit happier. Nothing is more attractive than happiness! (Maybe try not to eat 10.000 calories worth of sweets everyday :D )
How do you stay healthy while you’re traveling?
