Call me crazy but I detox-ed! I never thought there would be a day where I’d give up on food
(voluntarily) for three days but that’s exactly what I did and let me tell you: I don’t regret it for a second! I’ve always wanted to try a detox cleanse but the price and the fear of failing made me back out. This time, however, I did it and honestly, I couldn’t be any prouder of myself . (yay, go me!) So today I’m telling you all about my 3 days of detox with Detox Delight.
Why did you decide not to eat real food for 3 days, are you insane?
As I’ve already said I was curious what all the fuss is about. I’ve been eating a lot of junk food in the past few weeks/months and thought that a detox might help me to get rid of these bad habits and unhealthy cravings in order to get back to a healthier diet again. Also I kind of wanted to challenge myself and see if I have the willpower and determination to go all in and do it from beginning to end. (Consider it proved!)
What cleanse did you do?
I decided to go for the new Juice Delight Easy* Cleanse. It consists of 6 juices per day: Black Lemonade, Roots on Fire, Heartbeet, Liquid Salad (my favourite), Shineapple and Going Nuts. Each 500 ml juice contains about 2 kg fresh organic fruits and vegetables and you drink one every 2 hours, which manages to keep you busy and full throughout the day. The Cleanse is raw, organic, vegan, cold-pressed and gluten-free. I personally loved all the juices but I understand that it could be quite difficult for someone who doesn’t love the taste of greens in their drinks. The only thing I did not like was the Nut Milk at – it tasted too much like protein shake and I literally had to force myself to drink it up because I knew I needed the fats and proteins it provided.
Did you experience any “detox symptoms”?
I know that many people fear that they might be hungry all the time – truth is, I wasn’t hungry at all & felt surprisingly good through all three days. The only detox symptom I experienced was a little headache in the evening of day one and I was cold all the time (!!). But other than that I felt great – I could have also done some sports if it wasn’t for my laziness. Oh and the last day was a bit tough for me. Maybe that’s because I had a lot more time to think about all the things I couldn’t eat or because my body actually wanted to have something between its teeth again but I couldn’t wait for the day to be over so I could eat like a normal person again.
Did you see any positive effects?
Well I did lose some weight (-2 kg in 3 days), my belly looks flatter and less bloated, my mood is better and my immune systems definitely benefited from the detox. I’m more motivated to stick to a healthy diet and surprisingly don’t crave eat unhealthy food or chocolate like I usually do. I honestly have no idea if it improved my metabolism but I’m hoping for the best. And apart from the little bit of detox glow my skin is pulling off at the moment it still annoys me with its acne breakouts – but ok I don’t expect miracles from a 3-day cleanse.
Would you do it again?
Maybe around summer/spring yes but not in the nearer future – right now I’m so happy about being able to eat again, I really can’t picture myself doing another detox next month. The price for the juice delight easy I did is about: 117€. I understand that this is a lot of money, especially for a student, but I see so many young girls spending 1000+ euros on designer handbags and think it’s a lot more useful to invest in one’s health. Also, I realized that I wouldn’t have been able to do 3 days on my own. I once tried a one-day cleanse with self made smoothies and juices and failed miserably.
Have you ever done a detox cleanse? What was your experience like?
If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask them down below, I’d happily answer them :)
