Admittedly, I’m a fat kid at heart. I just adore good food and if it wasn’t for regular exercise I reckon I’d probably be overweight. However, I’ve also always been a very active kind of person. I’d always rather walk by foot than enter any kind of public transport and I do go to the gym every now and then. Ever since I started sharing snippets of my workouts on Insta Stories I received tons of messages from lazy asses like me, asking how I do it. That’s why I thought, why not share my *super secret* fitness routine with you guys.
MY FITNESS ROUTINE
So, at the beginning of November, I decided to sign up at the gym again because I’ve been thinking about going back for a couple of weeks then. Since November 1st I’ve been going roughly 3-4 days a week, every week and I couldn’t be happier about my decision.
I do not follow a certain gym routine or workout schedule because I like to go with the flow once I’m there. Some days I go in the morning and do some lifting, other days I go after lunch for a quick 30-minute spinning session and sometimes I go in the evening for both, cardio and weight training. When I’m not going to the gym I try to do a quick home workout, for example, a 30-45 minute yoga session. I usually go for YogaWithAdriene and follow one of her 30 Days of Yoga Challenges. On the weekends I like to go for longer workouts, long walks outside, hikes, … you get the idea. I love lazing around at home, but I also need my fresh air. So when the sun is out you’ll rarely see me sitting inside.
Here’s what a typical week in workouts looks like:
- Monday: 60 min gym (cardio + weights)
- Tuesday: 30 min gym
- Wednesday: 25 min yoga home workout
- Thursday: rest day
- Friday: 60 min gym
- Saturday: 30 min home workout/yoga or 60 min cardio/weight training
- Sunday: outdoor activity/rest day
HOW TO STAY ON TRACK WITH YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE
Do it for the right reasons
This actually is the very best tip I can give. Back when I only did sports to lose weight I just wasn’t happy doing so. I didn’t enjoy it and always had to drag myself to the gym to workout. Now, I do it more for the sake of my health and fun, rather than wanting to lose weight. Sure, toning my body and looking better naked definitely is one of the best perks of working out. But my main goal right now is fun, improving my health and having some place to shake off the day’s stress and worries.
Switch it up
Always sticking to the same schedule might be very useful for people who need some kind of routine to strive. For me, however, strict routines never worked out. So I ditched them and decided to go with whatever I feel like training that day. Some days I wake up fully motivated to work that booty, other days I only feel like going for a long walk. And that’s absolutely fine, as long as you’re active and having fun while doing so, I think!
Have fun doing it
What’s the use of doing something you hate just because society tells you to. Are those excess 5 pounds really worth feeling miserable while doing what you hate? Nope, don’t think so. So get out there and try as much as possible to find what feels good. I thoroughly believe that there’s the right kind of activity for everyone out there. Plus, once it’s fun you’re actually going to look forward to doing it and time will pass so much faster ;)
Keep in mind that I’m totally average when it comes to fitness. Hell, I might not even be average considering how out of breath I am when I gotta take the stairs up to my flat. I’m no fitness expert nor want my blog or life to revolve only around this issue. I’m just a girl who likes to eat her body weight in cake and run a few miles the next day. It’s all about balance. At the moment I *really* enjoy working out and am looking forward to hitting the gym almost every day. I’ve never in my life have been so happy and motivated about my fitness routine so I figured I might be doing the right thing, finally!
