As you might have seen on Instagram and Snapchat (miss.getaway), I spend the 2nd advent weekend in Carinthia with some other lovely bloggers. With a hella lot of University stress and some other job-related issues, I found it really hard to get into the Christmas spirit this year. When I got an email asking if I wanted to join some other girls for a weekend at Wörthersee in Carinthia to check out the Christmas markets surrounding the lake I said yes, of course. It sounded like so much fun!! And fun it was. The girls (Sophie, Christina, Leonie, Quirina and Viki) were super lovely and we had a great deal of fun together. And the best thing: after that weekend I sure wasn’t feeling like a Grinch anymore…
The Hotel: Parkhotel Pörtschach
We were invited to spend two nights at the Parkhotel Pörtschach. Fun fact: as I’m originally from Carinthia, I walked past this hotel quite a few times and me and the mister often joked about how ugly and unfitting this building was, standing there amongst the cute tiny houses at the shore of the lake. However, I was proofed wrong! Right after stepping into the lobby and spotting the mesmerizing christmas tree, I threw all my worries over board.
The hotel is located at the peninsula of the Wörthersee and therefore provides a stunning view over the lake. The rooms were super charming and the bed was so cozy. And the food, oh the food! Because Christina is vegan we got offered an additional 3-course dinner that wasn’t even on the menu. I then also opted for that dinner choice because it sounded delicious and let me tell you one thing: that was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.
What we actually did at the Wörthersee…
We had quite a tough program during our stay in Carinthia, because well… there’s so much to see. On Friday we arrived pretty late-ish in the afternoon, so we only strolled along the Christmas market in Velden (which is super super pretty btw) and then had some dinner at Acqua restaurant. The Pizza was really really good – and I’m pretty picky when it comes to Pizza.
On Saturday we got up quite early, enjoyed the rich breakfast buffet at the hotel and then headed out to snowshoe hike through the Bodental. First I was a bit nervous about the hiking part but turns out it’s actually really easy and a lot of fun. We ate some lunch (hell yeah, Kärntner Kasnudl, I live for that shizz) and then headed back to the hotel where we had a little DIY session. I created a super lovely Christmas moon thingy from hay
(which I can’t show you because I’m giving it to my mom as a Christmas present and she occasionally reads the blog).
Later that day we went on a fun torch walk through the Christmas market in Pörtschach. So atmospherical! And on Sunday morning we went up the Pyramidenkogel and marveled at the awesome view. Sadly it was a big foggy and we couldn’t see the lake from above. But I’ve already been there and you can check out the view in this post.
Have you ever been to any of these places? And did you like this kind of travel diary?
