If you’re following me on Instagram, you might have seen me binge watching a couple of Netflix shows in the past few weeks. I always have my moods – there are weeks in which I don’t access my Netflix account at all, and then there are weeks where I watch entire seasons in one day. So for today’s post, I thought I’d show you the 6 best shows to watch on Netflix right now (in my opinion at least).
I’m not going to lie, my Friday evenings have been made at least 100 times better by Riverdale. I started this show because everyone’s been raving about it on Twitter and the curious person that I am, I naturally had to find out what all the fuss was about. I immediately fell in love. What started out as your typical high school drama á la Gossip Girl (I mean come on – V is totally channeling Blair Waldorf), quickly turned into a nerve-wracking hunt for murder. Watching Riverdale along with all the others on twitter and engaging in the theories as to who might be the culprit is so much fun, too.
2. 13 REASONS WHY
Oh, the mandatory one. If you haven’t watched 13 Reasons Why you must have missed out on all the talk and memes in the past few weeks. I read the book a couple of years back and didn’t like it at all. The show, however, was really good. The changes they made to the show were absolutely brilliant and made the whole thing so much more relatable (in the book it’s kinda pathetic tbh). I’m not entirely sure about the second season, though. There’s only one book so why do we need another season? Apart from Netflix milking the money cow, that is.
Some people loved it – some hated it. And I gotta admit, Sophia isn’t your usual girl next door. She’s loud, she’s bold, and she just doesn’t give a shit. Yes, she is a bitch sometimes but I found her beautifully down to earth and real. Not everyone’s all sugar and spice and everything nice. The show’s been so much fun to watch while cooking, cleaning, and eating, for me. Sophia’s story is the ultimate American dream of pulling oneself up by the bootstraps and that’s utterly motivating to watch, I think.
IT’S FINALLY BACK. Sense8 is the ultimate example for watching an entire season in one day and then having to wait two years for the next one to come out. I haven’t started watching Season 2 yet but am determined to sit down and watch it all after my exam on Thursday. Sense8 follows the lives of eight people in eight different countries and how their stories slowly follow into another by some kind of mental linkage. They then must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world’s order. It’s beautifully shot, has amazing casting, and is just so exciting to watch. Definitely, something that you need to add to your Netflix list.
5. MAD MEN
When I asked you guys about Netflix suggestions a couple of weeks back, this show has been recommended to me at least a million times (no exaggeration haha). You’ve all told me how thrilling it is, how beautiful the cinematography is and I have to admit, you’ve been right. I’m only in season one but already really like following the story of Don Draper, a successful executive in one of New York’s most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s. A drama that sure as hell will you suck you into its world full of sexism, racism, and all the things that will make you outrageous and mystified by how much our lives and values changed in the past decades.
6. THE OA
Admittedly, I’ve watched the OA a couple of weeks back already. However, I’ve been thinking about it on a daily basis ever since I finished it. It’s one of the most amazing and confusing shows I’ve ever watched and I’m still not sure as what to think about the ending. The OA tells the story of a blind girl, Prairie, who returns back home after having gone missing seven years prior. Now in her 20s, with her sight miraculously restored, she tells the story of what happened to her, where she’s been, and what magical powers she possesses. SO GOOD, seriously.
