I am aware of the fact that with January first, life won’t magically change. It’s simply another day, just like the third of May or the 25th of October. However, I do love the feeling of a new start in January nevertheless. This is all artificially created and a cultural construct but as I am a bit of a monk-like person and adore structure and organization, this is the perfect opportunity for some rituals that let me have a fresh start into 2018.
Declutter your wardrobe
Something I love to do whenever I feel like something in my life is changing, is switching up my wardrobe and clearing out my closet. My style has evolved plenty in the past few years and I feel like I am slowly but surely transitioning towards a closet that contains only thing I really adore wearing. I always realize how little you need for a working wardrobe when I’m back home for a week around Christmas time and find lovely outfits from only the limited selection I took with me. So what I do around January usually is throwing out everything I no longer wear and sell it on Mädchenflohmarkt.
Clear out your purse and bag
I’m a quiet orderly person and never leave stuff in my bag, but my purse definitely needs a good clearing out for the new year. So I’ll throw out everything that I’m carrying with me and do not need, as well as get rid of all the loyalty cards that only take up space and nothing else in my purse. Furthermore, I got some nice money for Christmas and think I’ll finally treat myself to a new wallet.
Write down your goals and mindset for the new year
Already did that and shared a snippet of my new year’s resolutions in the last post with you guys. However, I’m also using my 2018 planner for writing down goals, dreams, aspirations and mottos so I can quickly have a browse through it throughout the year and remember my intentions. I think it’s so important to not only think about what you want from the new year but also write it down on paper, so this one is probably the most important task for a fresh start into 2018 for little me.
Get rid off everything that feels like it drowns you
I know this sounds easier than it’s done but it is oh so important to get rid of all hard feelings when entering the new year. As you get older I think you get a better idea of who you are, who you want to be and who you need in your life to be happy. The same applies to not only people but also the things you do. Whatever doesn’t make you happy, needs to go. No more mediocre in 2018!
Last but not least, do not work yourself up and have a wonderful and fun start into the new year. No matter if 2017 has been the best year yet or a total piece of shit – I have a feeling that 2018 will be bloody fabulous for all you wonderful people out there. Thanks for staying with me and we’ll see/hear each other again in the new year.
