Hamburg has been on top of my travel bucket list for the longest time now. So when I won 2 nights in a 25 hours hotel at a christmas giveaway (thanks again Luise), the decision wasn’t too hard. The 25 Hours Hamburg “Hafencity” it would be! And I wasn’t disappointed. You guys already know how much I love the 25 hours brand(read my review of the hotel in Vienna here). I can perfectly relate to their philosophy and just always feel so very welcome when staying in one of their houses. The 25 Hours Hamburg was exactly like that! From the very first second we stepped foot into the hotel we felt comfortable and at ease.
The 25 Hours Hafencity is generally furnished in a very particular way that reminds you of the container harbour that Hamburg is famous for. Next to extremely comfortable rooms they also have a really delicious restaurant, a chill out area with a vinyl room and even a sauna on the roof. But let’s talk about the food a little more. Breakfast was divine! Duh, they even offered semolina pudding, something I haven’t had for the longest time. Also the dinner/lunch was fantastic. We tried their fish’n’chips dish and basically went to heaven!
Also I need to comment on their hospitality. Because there was quite some queue when we wanted to check in, we were given a free iced tea as compensation for the waiting time. By the way: the iced tea is to die for, you really gotta try that if you’re staying there! And as we spend Valentines day in the hotel we were greeted with a little box of heart-shaped cookies by the service team after they cleaned our room. How lovely is that? It’s definitely the little things!!
We booked a basic “M+ Koje” room with harbour view. The room had the perfect size for a 2 night stay. The bathroom was spic and span and we didn’t find a little bit of dirt. This is something that I am very particular about – duh, there’s nothing worse than having a dirty hotel room! And oh my god their beds are the best thing on the planet! I don’t remember having slept that good in the longest time. We also had a TV in the room and fantastic view over the water. I think the view would be much better the higher up you are in the building, and of course when the weather is a bit better! Also the bathroom was really neat, with a darn good shower. Gotta love a shower with decent water pressure!
The 25 Hours Hamburg hotel we chose is located at the Hafencity. We decided to go for this one as we thought the area might be really nice to live in. And right we were. Almost all the important sights were in walking distance. (Well, that depends on how you define walking distance but yeah we did everything by foot!) Furthermore there’s a bus stop right across the street and an underground station (Überseequartier) very close by. Within 5 minutes you’ll reach a supermarket and yes, what else do you need? Generally speaking to me the Hafencity was the most amazing part of Hamburg but more on that in my Hamburg Travel Diary next week ;)
What I didn’t like about the 25 Hours Hamburg
Generally speaking I really enjoyed my stay at the Hafencity hotel and would definitely recommend the hotel. However, there was one thing that kinda annoyed or rather disturbed me. They had the most amazing vinyl room to lounge around, drink some coffee and listen to really tangible high quality music. Sounds like a dream right? Well… if it wasn’t for the fact that you were allowed to smoke in that room. This kinda resulted in people using the room more as a smoking chamber than a HQ music room. As a non-smoker I basically wasn’t able to stay in the room longer than 5 minutes – the smell was awful! And I think the room is so cool, why would you downgrade it to a stupid smokers room where no one listens to the music or even respects it. What a pity!!
- Prices range from 100€ upwards
- There’s free wifi in the rooms but also the restaurant and other areas
- They have a sauna up on their room which is supposed to be amazing
- You can check out their Website or Facebook for further information
Have you ever been to that hotel? What do you think of it after reading my review?
